Web Designer Club

About This Program

The Web Designer Club is an advanced, hands-on course for students eager to master the art of website creation and digital storytelling. This upgraded club integrates the core programming languages of the web—HTML and JavaScript—with cutting-edge design principles and visual development platforms like Wix, enabling students to build fully functional, visually compelling, and interactive personal websites from scratch.

This is not just a club for coders—it’s a creative and entrepreneurial journey for students who want to showcase their talents, build their brands, or launch their own online stores. Whether students are aspiring software engineers, digital artists, small business owners, or content creators, this club gives them the tools to design and publish their own websites with confidence and originality.

What Students Will Learn Throughout this program, students will explore both technical web development and visual interface design, combining analytical logic with artistic expression. Each session builds toward a portfolio-worthy final project, such as a personal résumé site, blog, portfolio, or e-commerce storefront.

Core Web Development Topics • HTML Fundamentals • Structuring a website with headers, paragraphs, lists, links, and multimedia elements • Embedding videos, forms, and interactive features • Building a responsive layout with sections and navigation bars • JavaScript Essentials • Variables, functions, conditionals, and events • DOM manipulation to create dynamic, interactive websites • Form validation, animation triggers, and user behavior tracking • Introduction to external APIs (e.g., embedding maps, integrating payment forms) • Design Best Practices • Principles of modern UI/UX (User Interface/User Experience) design • Visual hierarchy, accessibility, responsiveness, and mobile-first thinking • Color theory, typography, and layout strategies for clean, readable design

Visual Design with Wix In addition to coding, students will explore Wix, a visual website builder, to prototype designs, test user flows, and improve their visual communication. This no-code tool allows them to focus on layout and design thinking without the barrier of syntax.

Key Wix skills include: • Creating responsive, mobile-friendly websites • Designing custom navigation systems and user flows • Exploring templates and customizing themes • Integrating third-party apps (e.g., online booking systems, e-commerce tools)

By combining Wix with raw code, students will understand both low-code platforms and hands-on development, giving them a well-rounded perspective on modern web design workflows.

Project-Based Learning Students will complete multiple mini-projects and one major capstone project, which they will publish online. Projects include: • A Digital Résumé Website: Highlighting personal achievements, skills, portfolio items, and future goals • An Online Store Mockup: Featuring products, shopping cart design, and user interaction elements • A Passion Blog or Portfolio Site: Centered around art, photography, game reviews, or any area of interest • A Wix UX Redesign Challenge: Students take a basic website and improve its structure, visual appeal, and user experience

Professional Relevance & Future Preparation By the end of this program, students will have: • A live, personal website to showcase to colleges or internship recruiters • Beginner-to-intermediate skills in front-end development using HTML and JavaScript • Knowledge of UI/UX design fundamentals, applicable to product design and app development • Experience with versioning, iterative design, user testing, and deployment

This club offers a springboard into more advanced topics such as React.js, Node.js, full-stack development, or product design. It also introduces the mindset and language of freelancers, web developers, and digital entrepreneurs.

Course Expectations This course is creative, technical, and highly interactive. Students are expected to: • Bring their own ideas and aesthetics to each project • Dedicate 1–2 hours per week outside of club time to refine their websites • Collaborate and give feedback during design critiques • Present their final website in a professional demo at the end of the program

Recommended Experience: Familiarity with any block-based or text-based programming language (e.g., Scratch, Python) is helpful but not required. Students should be curious, committed, and ready to bring their digital ideas to life.
